A 17-year-old who suffered gunshot wounds Wednesday in Bellevue accidentally shot himself, Bellevue police said Thursday.
The wounds were not considered life-threatening, police said.
The teen was being driven to the hospital by an aunt, who stopped at 24th Avenue and Calhoun Street about 4:35 p.m. Wednesday to call 911, Bellevue Police Chief John Stacey Jr. said.
Police and paramedics found the boy with wounds to a hand and a leg. He was taken to Creighton University Medical Center in serious condition.
The teen did not cooperate with investigators Wednesday, providing information that Stacey described as "sketchy."
The investigation later determined the teen had accidentally shot himself, Stacey said.
