Iowa: State Web hacker was foreign

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa state official says investigators found an attack on a Web site operated by the Iowa Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management came from outside North America.

Iowa Department of Administrative Services communications director Robert Bailey said Wednesday that the foreign attacker gained access to the Web site through software that didn’t have a security patch. Bailey says no sensitive information was compromised in the incident.

Bailey says the hacker hasn’t been identified. He says the hacker used an image to deface the state Web site.

The March 3 attack forced six state Web sites to temporarily shut down.
