Tempe, Ariz. — After Nebraska shut out Pacific 8-0 in five innings to open the Diamond Devil Invitational, the Huskers dropped a 5-1 decision to 23rd-ranked BYU to earn a split Friday.
In the opener, Robin Mackin struck out six in her four-hitter. Julie Brechtel and Heidi Foland also homered. In game two, the Husker offense had at least one hit in five of the seven innings but stranded six runners, though Foland extended her career-best hitting streak to eight games.
NU returns to tournament action Saturday with a pair of games against Pacific and 10th-ranked Arizona State.
