Bluejays sell 2,500 CIT tickets on first day

Creighton has sold about 2,500 tickets for its first-round CIT game on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. at the Civic Auditorium, CU ticket director Adrian Rider said.

The Bluejays' opponent probably won't be announced until Sunday night.

Rider said he was encouraged by Friday's opening day of ticket sales.

“We had a nice little push,'' he said. “Comparing it to when we've been in the NIT, we're probably on par or just a little below what we sold on the first day. But I'm pleased. There seems to be a demand.''

This is Creighton's first venture in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. The 16-team, privately run tournament is in its second year of operation.

Creighton moved the game to the Civic Auditorium, where it played its home games from 1961 through 2003, because of a scheduling conflict at Qwest Center Omaha.

Rider said he wouldn't speculate on how many tickets Creighton might sell. “But given the situation,'' he said, “we're happy with how the first day went.''

Creighton will continue selling tickets Saturday at the Qwest Center box office from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday at Ticketmaster locations, including Younkers and Baker's stores. Ticketmaster also will sell the tickets online at www.ticketmaster.com and by phone at 800-745-3000.

Creighton's Ryan Athletic Center ticket office will be closed Saturday and Sunday but will reopen for sales Monday at 10 a.m.

The Jays, who lost to Bradley in the Missouri Valley Conference quarterfinals March 5, are 16-15.
