The skinny on Beatrice newcomer Jenkins

3:59 p.m.: Here’s the skinny on Beatrice newcomer Daniel Jenkins, a 6-foot-3 senior:

Jenkins is from Independence, Kan. After his freshman year, he left for Muhlenberg South in Kentucky where he played as a sophomore and junior. He started as a junior, newspaper clippings indicate.

Last summer, he returned to Independence and lived with a local family after his mother moved to Beatrice to take a position at the local hospital in its accounting department. He was ineligible, an official at the Kansas high school said, until Jan. 18. He played for the Bulldogs until Feb. 19, when their postseason was under way, and reconnected in Beatrice with his mother.

Brad Fredrickson, the A.D. at Independence, said Jenkins played well at times in his month of varsity eligibility. Fredrickson did not have averages for points or rebounds.

In the Orangemen’s 55-54 win Thursday night over Lincoln Pius X, he had nine points, 11 rebounds and a key fourth-quarter blocked shot.
