Police say Ray L. Hubbard beat, choked and then raped his ex-girlfriend in September and that some of that abuse happened in front of the couple’s young son.
Hubbard, 37, was recently arrested in Georgia and brought back to Omaha to face charges of first-degree sexual assault, strangulation and false imprisonment for an early September incident.
Hubbard, who was featured by police in Crime Stoppers Most Wanted segment last year, appeared in court Friday afternoon and was ordered held on a $500,000 bail. He will have to post 10 percent or $50,000 to be released from jail pending trial.
According to a prosecutor, Hubbard went to his ex-girlfriends house near North 37th Street and Fowler Avenue and the couple got into an argument. Hubbard started slapping and choking the woman until she nearly passed out.
The couple’s 8-year-old son tried defending his mother by going after Hubbard with a knife. Hubbard took the knife and brought the two down into the basement of the home where he held them for several hours.
At some point, Hubbard brought the boy upstairs and then went back downstairs and repeatedly assaulted the woman. The woman escaped after he fell asleep. She told police the entire ordeal lasted about four hours.
