Infant injured; man arrested

WORLD-HERALD NEWS SERVICE

COUNCIL BLUFFS -- A Council Bluffs man was arrested after a 6-week-old girl arrived at Jennie Edmundson Hospital with a skull fracture.

Council Bluffs police reports stated the girl was brought to the Jennie Edmundson emergency room Thursday with swelling on her head and slight bleeding in her eye.

The mother of the child reportedly said her husband, Fernando Antunez-Torres, 34, had told her he hit the child on Wednesday because she would not stop crying.

“We interviewed the mother and father,” said Detective Ron Branigan said. “The arrest spilled his guts and said that he snapped.” He said due to the nature of the injury, Antunez-Torres was arrested on suspicion of willful injury and felony child endangerment.

An examination determined that the child had suffered a skull fracture. The child remained hospitalized.
