Recruiter accused of embezzling

LINCOLN (AP) — A 39-year-old Hickman man has been accused of stealing from the Lincoln Independent Business Association.

Court records say David Henderson was charged with felony theft of more than $1,500 by deception. The charge carries a maximum prison term of 20 years.

Henderson was employed as a membership recruiter, and police say he took around $4,500 from the group earlier this year. The group president says Henderson no longer is affiliated with it.

The group says its mission goals include educating the public about businesses’ role in job creation and supporting candidates who promote free enterprise.

Henderson is free on $300 bond, 10 percent of $3,000 bail. There is no public phone listing for him, and case records don’t list his attorney’s name.
