MINNEAPOLIS — Creighton clinched at least a share of the Metrodome tournament title with its 6-4 win against host Minnesota on Saturday night.
The Bluejays (8-3) fell behind 2-0 going into the third inning, but put up the proverbial picket fence by scoring a single run in six innings, including the final five frames.
While CU’s offense chipped away, the pitching staff held the Golden Gophers off the scoreboard until the ninth inning. Five Jays had an RBI and Ian Dike homered and scored twice.
Minnesota (5-8) made things interesting in the bottom of the ninth with AJ Pettersen’s two-run homer of the year to make it 6-4. Jack VanLeur came on in relief to get the final two outs, pitching around a two-out double for his second save in as many days. CU closes its 10-day road trip Sunday with an 11 a.m. game against Harvard (2-3).
