The annual Ancient Order of Hibernians St. Patrick’s Day Parade begins at 10 a.m. in downtown Omaha.
The parade will start at 15th and Howard Streets, head east on Harney Street to 11th Street, south to Howard Street and west to 14th Street.

The area’s top spellers will compete in the 2010 Midwest Spelling Bee for a chance to advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.
Seventy-five students from Nebraska and Iowa will compete at this year’s Midwest bee, sponsored by The World-Herald, at the Harper Center on the Creighton University campus.
After a welcome and an introduction of judges at 9 a.m., written rounds will be held through 11 a.m., or until six to 10 finalists remain. The oral elimination rounds are expected to begin at about 11:15 a.m. The awards presentation is set for about 12:30 p.m.
Discover Nebraska Family Day will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Durham Museum. The event will offer vacation tips and options for great Nebraska getaways as well as activities and giveaways.
Greg Wagner of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will explore the state’s recreation destinations at 11 a.m., and Scheels sporting goods representatives will offer fishing and biking demonstrations and events from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors can play Nebraska Bingo from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Walter and Suzanne Scott Great Hall. Free 2010 Nebraska Travel Guides will be distributed all day.

Join the Omaha Organization for the Purpose of Storytelling at 7:30 p.m. in a celebration of Irish stories, music and lore.
“A Bit o’ the Irish: A Night of Irish Storytelling” costs $5 per person or $20 for a family.
The event will be at Fontenelle Forest Nature Center, 1111 Bellevue Blvd. North in Bellevue.
Saturday and Sunday
Vintage drag cars, traditional hot rods, custom cars and the Hudson Hornet from the film “Cars” will be on display at the World of Wheels at the Qwest Center Omaha.
Hours for the show dedicated to all things auto are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $15; $5 for children ages 6 to 12.
The event will include BMX Freestyle Stunt Shows throughout the weekend.

And if that isn’t enough engine revvin’ for you, head to the Arenacross Series this weekend at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs.
A track party will take place from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, where visitors can get up close and personal with riders, taking photos, getting autographs and more.
Close-contact racing events will be staged at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday, which is amateur day.
Reserved admission seats Saturday are $40, $25 and $20. Amateur day seats are general admission and $10, plus fees.
The seventh annual Spring Arts and Crafts Show will be this weekend at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs.
The show features more than 200 exhibitors from seven states selling handmade goods, from crafts to edibles.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Satuday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5. Children 10 and under get in free; people who come Saturday will receive a re-entry stamp good for Sunday as well.

Put Up the 3, a Nebraska boys and girls high school 3-point shooting and slam dunk exhibition, will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at Papillion-La Vista South High School.
Thirty-nine area high schools were invited to enter two shooters each for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes event.
