WAHOO — The Saunders County Museum in Wahoo was abuzz with activity Saturday morning.

Thirty-three college students from North Dakota jumped off the bus at 8 a.m. By the time they got back on the bus at noon, the museum complex had a new look.

The Pay It Forward Tour is a nine-day alternative spring break trip sponsored by the national nonprofit Student Today Leaders Forever. The organization plans one large service project, this year in New Orleans.

But college students heading to that destination don't miss the opportunity to help out before they get there.

“We just do service projects along the way where we stop,” bus leader Josh Kvidt said.

Wahoo was the first of five community service project stops for the North Dakota bus.

Museum supporters were more than grateful for the help.

Volunteer Elizabeth Wagner was helping to oversee painting projects Saturday morning. She said the students were getting things done more quickly than anticipated.

“They are awesome,” she said.

Their next stop will be in Holton, Kan. They will also do service projects in Sheldon, Mo., Tulsa, Okla., and Hot Springs Ark.
