“She was a remarkable woman. Everybody loved her,” Charlene Holzapfel said of her mother, Mildred Walsh.
Park-goers loved Walsh as one of “The Lynch Park Bag Ladies and Bud,” the crew of five women and one man who cleaned the park weekly.
Doctors and others with whom Walsh had appointments loved the home-baked treats she brought along.
The Lynch Park Neighborhood Association loved Walsh for her work as treasurer of the group and its Neighborhood Watch subgroup.
And Tuesday when she celebrated her 92nd birthday while a patient at Bergan Mercy Medical Center, the nurses showed their love with gifts.
Mildred P. Walsh was still hospitalized Wednesday when she died from a blood clot, Holzapfel said.
“She never, ever missed the grandchildren's baseball or basketball or football games, no matter how old she was,” Holzapfel said. “She was on the go all the time. We never left her home.”
As a younger woman, Walsh worked for the Omaha school board and as a bookkeeper for United Floors and McDaniel Sales, her daughter said.
Other survivors include son Larry Walsh of Coral Springs Fla.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Mildred Walsh was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence J. Walsh.
Services were Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
