LINCOLN (AP) -- The City Council has voted to revisit a 1930s law that had kept minors from public dancing past 9 p.m.
Owners of the Bourbon Theatre sought the change because police had told the theater that it could not admit anyone younger than 19 to shows after 9 p.m., so long as it had a public dancing permit and the teens were not supervised by an adult.
The discord is reminiscent of the 1984 movie "Footloose," in which teenagers in a small town weren't allowed to dance.
Under the ordinance amended on Monday, the city threshold goes to 18. If a club doesn't serve alcohol, people 18 and older can attend an adult dance without adult supervision. If the facility serves alcohol, the minors must be supervised by an adult.
