Need a city inspection? Use the Web.

The City of Omaha launched a new online service Monday for individuals and businesses seeking inspections involving all types of permits, including building, plumbing, mechanical and electrical.

The Internet site can be used to schedule inspections as well as to check the status of a permit or an inspection.

“Increasing city government efficiency and responsiveness is an ongoing goal of this administration,” Mayor Jim Suttle said in a prepared statement.

To use the Web service, a person needs to provide a valid e-mail address and a City of Omaha contractor identification number.

The building permits and inspections division reduced its hours starting Sept. 8 as a result of budget cuts. The office in the City-County Building, 1819 Farnam St., is now open weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for walk-in inquiries and applications.

People with questions can call 444-5350.
