Group home assault charge filed

A 16-year-old charged with sexually assaulting a younger boy at an Omaha group home will be tried as an adult.

Douglas County District Judge Michael Coffey this week denied a request from Jorge Camacho to transfer his case to juvenile court.

On Dec. 14, Camacho, then 15, and 18-year-old Darius Kellum allegedly sexually assaulted a 12-year-old boy at an Omni Behavioral Health enhanced-treatment group home near 105th Avenue and Grover Street, where the three were residents.

Kellum and Camacho both were charged as adults with first-degree sexual assault.

Coffey declined to transfer Camacho's case to juvenile court, noting Camacho's violent and uncooperative history in the juvenile system.

According to court documents, Coffey said Camacho "is not amenable to treatment which could be provided through the juvenile court."
