A California woman has been sentenced to 16 to 20 months in prison after pleading guilty to stealing $43,214.40 from her elderly mother, a Nebraska resident, the Nebraska Attorney General's Office said Monday.
Authorities said Annigje Perkins of Sacramento acted as the person with her mother's power of attorney. They say she used that authority between November 2005 and September 2008 to take money from her mother's bank accounts, cash in two annuities and sell her mother's trailer home, pocketing the profits.
The state's Medicaid Fraud and Patient Abuse Unit investigated the case and eventually charged Perkins in Douglas County with theft by unlawful taking.
Perkins, 60, pleaded guilty to the charge last year.
