    BASEBALL

    Two Metro players commit to Creighton; Sunday game in Chicago canceled

    Infielders Brett Bass of Millard West and Brad McKewon of Millard South have committed to play baseball at Creighton.

    Bass set a single-season batting average record for the Wildcats last year (.488), breaking the previous mark set by Jake Dugger. During the American Legion summer season, he was among the state leaders in batting average (.426), hits (60), doubles (21), triples (five), RBIs (56) and runs (48).

    McKewon was tied for the team lead in hits for the Patriots last season with 53 while batting .424. He also led the team in runs scored (57), doubles (17) and triples (three).

    Bluejays' Sunday game canceled

    Creighton's Sunday game at the University of Illinois-Chicago because of the threat of inclement weather in Chicago.

    The teams will play at 4 p.m. Friday and at 1 p.m. Saturday in Chicago as previously scheduled.
