Husker's brother has career-game in NCAA tourney

11:59 p.m.: Quick quiz: What brother of a Nebraska football player nearly led his team to a first-round upset in the NCAA basketball tournament Thursday night?

Your answer is Brian Qvale, the University of Montana starting center and the older brother of NU redshirt freshman lineman Brent Qvale.

Brian Qvale had a career-high 26 points, making 12 of 16 shots, as the Grizzlies battled third-seeded New Mexico to the finish before losing 62-57 in San Jose, Calif. The 6-foot-11 junior also had 13 rebounds and blocked two shots.

Qvale came into the NCAA tournament averaging 9.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.0 blocks for Montana.

Brian Qvale didn't get all the basketball skill in the family, which lives in Williston, N.D. The 6-7 Brent Qvale was an all-state pick as both a junior and senior at Williston High, averaging 21.3 points and 11.9 rebounds a game in his final season.
