Over the past 10 years, about 2,200 used computers have been refurbished in Omaha and sent to schools in Africa, mostly to Uganda.
Tim Leacock, a retired Union Pacific electrical engineer, and his wife, Ruth, run the nonprofit Computers for Africa, which has involved 200 volunteers in Omaha. Ruth said the program is much better known in Uganda than in Omaha.
The group is holding a dinner Friday night in Omaha and will hear from a Ugandan about how the program has benefited people there. Friday's dinner at Creighton Prep will include the premier of an animated clip, "Mouse on Mission." Dinner tickets are $35.
