Sigh.
It's a nice day, sunny, mild. We haven't seen one this pleasant since November.
But soon, it's back to winter.
Get out your galoshes, coat, umbrella and . . . snow scraper.
A cold front was expected to move in Thursday night. Rain, up to 3 inches of snow, winds gusting to about 25 mph and wind chills in the teens down to single digits are forecast for Friday.
“It's a slap in the face after what we're receiving today,” said Tom Kines, meteorologist with AccuWeather Inc., The World-Herald's consultant.
Temperatures aren't expected to be low enough, he said, for the snow to amount to more than a couple of inches of accumulation. Instead, it's likely to be wet and dense and accumulate mostly in yards but not on streets and sidewalks.
At least that's the forecast.
Southeastern Nebraska and southern Iowa could see more snow and rain, Kines said.
Central and western Nebraska are forecast to take a harder hit from the snow, according to the National Weather Service.
Saturday, the first official day of spring, is forecast to be chilly and blustery. Sunday should be nicer, possibly with temperatures nudging 50 degrees.
Despite Friday's gloomy outlook, Kines did have some good news. After the next few days, the rest of March could see a return to somewhat milder weather.
Maybe spring is just around the corner.
