A film premiere and talks by Hollywood insiders will be featured at the Malcolm X Festival at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
The ninth annual event runs April 18-20.
Omowale Akintunde’s independent film “Wigger” will get its first showing April 19 at Great Escape Theatre.
Akintunde is the chair of UNO’s Black Studies Department. He says the film was shot in north Omaha in 2009 with actors Anna Maria Horsford, Meshach Taylor and David Oakes. It delves into race and identity issues.
Bill Duke and Kevin Arkadie will speak April 20. Duke is an actor, director and producer best known for his portrayal of “tough guys.” Producer and writer Arkadie has worked on “CSI.”
Malcolm X was born Malcolm Little in Omaha in 1925. He was assassinated in 1965.
