A routine traffic stop proved costly to two men hauling fruit drinks -- and more -- in a semi.
A Douglas County deputy stopped the truck Wednesday afternoon near Interstate 80 and Q Street for a lane violation, Chief Deputy Marty Bilek said.
The deputy became suspicious while talking to the men and asked to search the truck. In back, among the fruit drinks, deputies found a suitcase filled with $320,000 in cash.
No arrests were made, but the money was confiscated. Bilek said there is reason to believe it came from a drug deal.
The case has been turned over to federal authorities. A judge will decide if the money should be returned to the men or kept by the Sheriff’s Office.
