3 kids home alone, pot in reach

A 4-year-old girl was left home alone to care for her even younger twin sisters, who police found eating debris off a floor and wearing “very soiled” diapers.

A man called 911 on Monday to report that he had received numerous calls from the family's home near 29th and Taylor Streets. He said the 4-year-old was left in charge by her mother.

When police knocked at the door, the older girl answered, in tears.

Her 1-year-old sisters were on a bedroom floor. Marijuana and tobacco lay on a bed within the babies' reach, police said.

Police remained at the home for 45 minutes, and the 22-year-old mother never returned. The children's grandmother later told police that her daughter “likes to party.”

All three children were placed in state care. Their mother arrested on suspicion of child neglect.
