Soldier gets trial in sex assault

LINCOLN — A June trial has been ordered for a former Nebraska National Guard soldier whose conviction for sexual assault was overturned on appeal.

Jacob Ford pleaded not guilty to first-degree sexual assault during a hearing Wednesday in Lancaster County District Court.

Ford was convicted of sexual assault in 2008 and sentenced to four to six years in prison. Last month, the Nebraska Supreme Court overturned the conviction on appeal.

Ford is accused of sexually assaulting a woman at a party while on leave from a deployment in Iraq. He has maintained that he believes the sexual encounter at a December 2007 party was consensual.

Ford is being held on $150,000 bail. — AP
