A woman hoping to get some cash by robbing a Papillion convenience store was able to get away only with some smokes.

Sarpy County Sheriff's Capt. Greg London said a woman in her mid-30s followed an employee of Casey's General Store in Papillion into the store at 609 Magnolia Ave. about 3 a.m. Wednesday.

The woman, armed with a sharp object, demanded that the employee open the safe. When the employee was unable to do so, the suspect grabbed a cord and tied up the employee. The employee was not injured. The suspect then filled a wastebasket with cartons of cigarettes and fled the store.

She left the area driving west on Sixth Street in Papillion in a black Pontiac Grand Am.

Minutes later, a Ralston police officer saw a similar vehicle just north of 72nd and Harrison Streets. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver would not stop. The officer followed the vehicle east on Interstate 80 and then north on Interstate 29. The suspect eventually abandoned her vehicle near Seventh Avenue in Council Bluffs.

The Sarpy County Sheriff's Office is investigating the robbery. No arrests have been made.
