Nebraska’s Dwyer to wrestle for third

Aside from 197-pound Craig Brester reaching the finals, Friday wasn’t a great night for the Nebraska wrestling team at the NCAA championships.

Fourth-seeded Stephen Dwyer fell in the semifinals 3-2 to No. 1 Mack Lewnes of Cornell at 174 pounds.

Dwyer and Lewnes traded one-point escapes before the Cornell star scored a takedown with 15 seconds left. Dwyer, a senior, is alive Saturday to wrestle for third place.

At 184, NU freshman Josh Ihnen won his second and third straight matches in the wrestlebacks. But an 8-6 loss to third-seeded Dustin Kilgore of Kent State left Ihnen (19-15) one win short of All-America status.

Husker sophomore heavyweight Tucker Lane got his consolation match Friday into overtime, but gave up a takedown with 13 seconds left to fall 3-1 to No. 7 Jarod Trice of Central Michigan. Lane finished the season 23-12, 1-2 in the national tournament.
