Daniel H. Hanson will become the 33rd president of Peru State College at an inaugural event at 3 p.m. Thursday in the college’s theater. A reception will follow in the Al Wheeler Activity Center from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln department of psychology has been selected to receive the 2010 Departmental Teaching Award. The award is designed to recognize a department or unit within the University of Nebraska that has made significant contributions to the university’s teaching efforts. The honored department is awarded $25,000.

The 2010 winners of the University of Nebraska’s most prestigious awards for research, teaching and engagement recently were announced. The Outstanding Research and Creative Activity Award winners were Jonis Agee, Adele Hall professor, department of English, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and Xiao Zeng, Ameritas University professor, department of chemistry, UNL. The Outstanding Teaching and Instructional Creativity Award winners were Paul Paulman, professor of family medicine and assistant dean of clinical skills, University of Nebraska Medical Center, and Laura White, professor, department of English, UNL. The Innovation, Development and Engagement Award winners were Phyllis Markussen, chairwoman of the department of family studies and interior design, University of Nebraska at Kearney, and Byers “Bud” Shaw, professor of surgery and medical director of Advanced Clinical Applications Project, UNMC.

Clarkson College recently received a donation of $100,000 from Ira Cox in memory of his late wife, Virginia Griffith Cox. The donation will be added to the Virginia Cox Endowed Scholarship Fund at Clarkson College. The fund was established in 2004 and is available to Clarkson College undergraduate nursing students.

More than 30 employers will be represented at an Educators Employment Fair, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 30 on the second floor of the Nebraska Student Union on the campus of the University of Nebraska at Kearney. School system representatives from as far away as Alaska and Texas will be seeking teachers, counselors, speech language pathologists and administrators. While there is no charge to participate, individuals must register by 5 p.m. Wednesday. The Multicultural Club will host an evening of international foods and entertainment at the seventh annual Culture Show at Northeast Community College in Norfolk, Neb. The event will be 6 p.m. March 28 in the Lifelong Learning Center on campus. Entertainment will include native dances, poetry readings and a fashion show. Seating is limited, so those interested in attending should purchase their tickets, which are $12 for adults and $6 for students, in advance by calling 402-844-7282. If purchased at the door, tickets are $15 for adults and students.
