The Omaha Police Department's northeast precinct will hold a five-week mini-academy for young people ages 16 to 18.
Sessions will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. starting April 6. The last will be May 4.
All sessions will be at the northeast precinct building, 30th and Taylor Streets.
The goal is for young people to develop a better understanding of police procedures and the department's service to the community.
Topics will include an overview of the department; gangs, guns and drugs; crimes against people; and police and the community.
There is no charge. Anyone interested must register at the northeast precinct front desk by 5 p.m. Friday or with their school resource officer.
Identification and parental permission are required. Background checks will be run on all applicants.
For more information, contact the Northeast Community Resource Center, 444-3367, or the precinct front desk at 444-6916.
