CARBONDALE, Ill. — Bluejay senior Ian Dike ended a forgettable offensive slump with a game-winning hit that sealed Creighton's series victory against Southern Illinois. The teams split a pair of one-run games Saturday, with CU winning the opener 2-1 prior to falling 5-4 in 11 innings in game two.
Dike, who came to the plate in the seventh inning without a hit and seven strikeouts in his last 10 at-bats, drove in Jimmy Swift from first with two outs to give CU a 2-1 lead that Brandon Koenigstein and the bullpen maintained for the win in the opener.
Koenigstein (3-0) only allowed an unearned run on five hits through seven innings.
In the nightcap, T.J. Roemmich had the clutch hit for the Jays with his two-out RBI single to tie the game 4-4 in the ninth. But the Salukis (10-14, 1-2 MVC) used Michael Stalter's looper to center to score the winning run in the 11th to salvage the finale of the three-game Missouri Valley Conference opening series.
