LINCOLN (AP) - About 250 employees in Nebraska’s legislative branch of government will help ease the state’s budget problems by not getting paid as they normally do.
The employees who include staff of state senators aren’t scheduled to work on Friday, but normally would get paid. That’s because it is normally considered a sort of administrative-leave day in the midst of the busy legislative session, short of a full holiday.
Not getting paid will save the state more than $50,000. The state is trying to dig out of a $45 million budget hole.
The employees who won’t get paid for Friday also include those in the legislative fiscal, ombudsman, and research offices.
