    FOOTBALL

    They said it

“Taylor is a good athlete. I think he can run, he can throw; I think he is a pretty multitalented kid, as is Cody (Green). I like the athleticism at the quarterback position. I think that they are going to bring a lot to the table as far as giving things for people to defend.”

    — Coach Bo Pelini on Taylor Martinez's ability to run the ball

“(Niles Paul) has had a really good spring. I expect good things out of him. I think Brandon Kinnie came a long way. I think really the wide-out position as a whole is better. I like that position on the football team.”

    — Pelini on the improvement of the NU receivers

“You can't be a some-of-the-time football player or some-of-the-time football team. At times that is what we were, even in practice. We strive for perfection around here and until I start seeing us get closer to that, I will say we have a long way to go.”

    — Pelini on the team's progress

“We had a heck of a spring. We went out there and basically had 15 games because we went out there and just got after it. That's the only thing you can ask for an entire team. We're just going to keep doing that throughout summer and fall camp.”

    — QB Cody Green on competition within the team

“All around I'm just a more detailed player. I'm getting in and out of my routes quicker. I'm stronger. I'm more explosive off the line, just adjusting to the ball better, doing all the little things better to get open, making a nice little cushion for myself to catch the ball.”

    — Receiver Niles Paul on what he's improved from last year

“Guys were staying inside the system, and they made their plays that way. That was kind of the biggest thing Coach Carl (Pelini) wanted going in. We just stick with the system.”

    — Defensive tackle Jared Crick on the D-line's performance on Saturday

“As far as going into summer, we've just got to keep it rolling. (Strength) Coach Dobson's going to make sure we do that, and we're going to do a great job. We're wanting to come out with a product better than where we ended last year going into fall camp.”
