Omaha Public Market Inc., the organization behind the downtown Omaha Farmers Market on Saturdays, will open a new market on Sundays.
The market will be open from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend at Aksarben Village, 67th Street and West Center Road, according to Vic Gutman, executive director of the not-for-profit public market organization.
The Market at Aksarben Village will be in a plaza area by Wohlner’s Grocery, and it will emphasize locally produced vegetables, fruits, meats and plants, Gutman said.
He anticipates 30 to 35 vendors when the market opens and says the market has the capacity to grow to about 50 vendors. Hours will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be entertainment in the plaza, and Wohlner’s will serve an outdoor brunch.
“For seven years, it has been a dream of ours to have a Sunday market,” Gutman said. “We think there is a strong demand for a Sunday market in Omaha because some people are not able to come on Saturday. And this location will serve people in west Omaha.”
