3 p.m.: The first Bo Pelini Foundation celebrity golf tournament wasn't lacking for big names Monday as an estimated 160 golfers teed it up at Wilderness Ridge in Lincoln.
Neil Smith, Tommie Frazier, Rich Glover, Chris Kelsay, Johnny Rodgers, Barrett Ruud and Darin Erstad were among the former Nebraska football players taking the course. They also were joined by Ndamukong Suh, the No. 2 overall pick in the recent NFL draft.
There was a cool moment when Suh and Smith met on the range and talked for a few minutes. Some good photo ops, too, as Suh posed with Smith, Glover, Rodgers and others.
Also coming out were former Colorado coach Gary Barnett and comedian Dan Whitney, aka Larry the Cable Guy.
“I saw Larry the Cable Guy swing over there on the range,” Pelini said. “I'm going to stay clear of him for a while, I think.”
Connie Jamrog, executive director of the Bo Pelini Foundation, said it's possible that Monday's outing could raise between $125,000 to $150,000. The foundation has helped previously with such causes as juvenile and adult diabetes, breast cancer research and treatment, and underprivileged children.
“The key,” Jamrog said, “is every dollar we raise stays in Nebraska.”
