Cole Stunkard, a senior at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and co-owner of Delta Real Estate Portfolio, won the regional Global Student Entrepreneur Awards contest Friday.
The company buys single-family dwellings and rents out individual rooms to college students and young professionals, Stunkard said.
Stunkard was one of six finalists for the award and will go on to compete at the international competition to be held later this year in Kansas City, where more than $150,000 in prizes are at play.
The student entrepreneurs gave short demonstrations about their businesses to a panel of judges that included local business professionals Fritz Hammons, Phil Lieber, Shannon Wallace, Allen Dayton and Mike Eck.
“It was a little nerve-racking, because this was the first time I've ever presented my business in front of successful business owners,” Stunkard said. “It was like pitching it to investors -- you have to have your ducks in a row, your T's crossed and your I's dotted.”
Delta Real Estate was founded in 2006.
The competition was sponsored by the Nebraska Chapter of the Entrepreneurs' Organization.
