Beginning this week, the Money page on Omaha.com will launch a content-sharing partnership with Silicon Prairie News, a blog that publishes online features, interviews and video focused on Midlands entrepreneurs and the region's “creative class.”
Readers of Omaha.com will have access to Silicon Prairie News' most insightful articles and video, content that complements stories that The World-Herald's business staff brings daily to the online and print product.
Jeff Carney, The World-Herald's managing editor for digital development, said the partnership eventually could evolve into a “cross-pollinating effort” in which online readers can comment and interact through both Omaha.com and siliconprairienews.com, making the online experience much more integrated.
Founded by Jeff Slobotski and Dusty Davidson in the summer of 2008, Silicon Prairie News was created to highlight and promote the entrepreneurs of the Midlands and Midwest. The duo's other goals are to make readers aware of local entrepreneurs and their companies, and to promote those individuals on a national or even worldwide stage, Davidson said.
“All too often I think people look to the Midwest or the middle of the country as sort of devoid of innovation or of creativity or cool companies,” he said.
“Our goal has always been: How do you find those people that are doing great things and then talk really loudly about the great things that they're doing? For us, the partnership with The World-Herald and with Omaha.com allows us to basically just build on that mission.”
The partnership will give readers of The World-Herald's Money section access to information about the region's entrepreneurial community, which combined with the broader perspective of stories by the newspaper's reporters will create a more complete daily report, Carney said.
An example of that complementary content will be on display starting Thursday at Silicon Prairie News' Big Omaha conference.
“We'll cover the event from a broader perspective than SPN (Silicon Prairie News),” Carney said. “Add their content to our mix, and we immediately have a far more comprehensive report for all our readers.”
