WASHINGTON -- Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., said he has a "very favorable" impression of U.S. Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan after meeting with her in his Capitol Hill office Wednesday afternoon.
"She was very candid with the discussion," Nelson said.
Nelson said he has seen nothing that would prompt him to vote against her nomination but that he withholds final judgement until after her confirmation hearing.
Nelson said his 20-minute meeting with Kagan included a discussion of the second amendment. Nelson said he opted not to bring up Kagan’s decision to boot military recruiters when she was dean of Harvard Law School.
"I went back and looked at her explanation that she’s given so far and I thought it was adequate," Nelson said.
