The Crazy Horse Memorial in South Dakota is open year-round. Work on the mountain continues throughout the year, as well, so always be ready for a big blast!

Admission: $10 for adults, free for children under 6. Motorcyclists, bicyclists and walkers are $5 each. Bus rides to the foot of the mountain are $5 per person.

Free admission for Native Americans, active duty military personnel with ID, Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops in uniform and Custer County, S.D., residents.

Hours: From Memorial Day weekend through mid-October, open from 8 a.m. until dark.

Where: 18 miles southwest of Mount Rushmore, off U.S. Highway 16/385 in Crazy Horse, S.D.

Here are some key dates if you plan a visit this year:

Memorial Day Weekend Open House: Free admission to residents of South Dakota, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska and Wyoming. Booths featuring guest artists in the Indian Museum of North America and Cultural Center.

May 2 through Oct. 11: Legends in Light laser-light multimedia presentation. Shows are nightly at dusk.

Thursdays, June 3-Aug. 26: Free weekly summer performance and lecture series at 6 p.m.

Annual Crazy Horse Volksmarch, June 5-6: This will be the 25th annual organized hike up the mountain, which is a 10K (6.2 miles) round trip.

Crazy Horse Stampede and Gift from Mother Earth Celebration, June 18-20: The weekend also features the annual Great Plains Indian Rodeo Association and rodeo events as well as an American Indian and Western arts & crafts show and sale.

June 26: Ruth Ziolkowski’s 84th birthday and the 134th anniversary of the Battle of Little Bighorn. An evening program honors Ruth and special effects in the Legends in Light show commemorate the battle. Night blast on the mountain. Free admission after 7 p.m.

Labor Day Weekend Open House, Sept. 4-6: Free admission to residents of South Dakota, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska and Wyoming. Guest artists in the Indian Museum of North America & Cultural Center.

Sept. 6: Final night blast of the summer to mark anniversary of the death of Crazy Horse and the birth of sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski. Free admission after 6 p.m.

Native American Day, Oct. 11: Activities for youth, a program and performers along with a mountain blast. Free admission.

Oct. 20: Anniversary of Korczak Ziolkowski’s death. Only on this day may visitors walk to the sculptor’s tomb to pay respects. Free admission.
