Most snakes are nonpoisonous, harmless and beneficial to people. In fact, more people die each year from honeybee and wasp stings than from snakebites.

Reduce ground cover and food supplies to discourage snakes from living in backyards. (Snakes are carnivorous). Keep snakes from entering buildings by sealing all holes in foundations.

Quickly seek medical attention if someone is bitten by a venomous snake. The most useful snakebite first aid kit: car keys and coins for calling a hospital.
