By Chad Purcell
WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

The Springfield Days annual community celebration will kick off Friday night with a Crash, Boom, Bang.

The explosive theme of this year’s three-day festival fits the bill on Friday with the city’s fireworks display set for 10 p.m.

Other events on tap for the weekend include the Nebraska state championship barbecue contest, the Springfield Days 5K Fun Run/Walk, and the traditional Bugeater Flea Market and Craft Fair.

The Springfield Days kiddy parade starts at 10 a.m. and the grand parade at 10:30 a.m. Saturday on Main Street. The barn dance, featuring the Mason County Band, is set to start at 9 Saturday night at the fairgrounds.

On Sunday, the Platte River Valley Farm Toy Show again returns to the fairgrounds.

Events will be at the fairgrounds and throughout the city. Most are free. Get a schedule at www.springfieldnebraska.com.
