Jan. 15, 2010: Daniel E. Adams Sr., 25, was shot in the chest and stomach near 24th Street and Laurel Avenue. Police said Adams and another man stopped a vehicle on 24th Street near Hartman Avenue and robbed the driver at gunpoint. After a chase, Adams threatened to shoot himself and then pointed his gun at an officer. Adams was shot by police and died a short time later at the Nebraska Medical Center. He was shot by Officers Zach Petrick and Chad Frodyma.
Feb. 7, 2007: Robert Ventry was shot by Officer Jerry Kassen in a house at 4131 Camden Ave. as Ventry, armed with a knife, lunged at a woman. Ventry had gone on a spree in which he broke out windows at two or more homes, broke into two other homes, assaulted a man with a frying pan and ran naked through a neighborhood near 42nd Street and Camden Avenue.
Dec. 16, 2004: Mateo Nicolas Andres was shot by Sgt. John Swanson after Andres fired a shot that shattered the glass in a door behind Swanson. Police were sent to the apartment of Andres’ girlfriend, at 1046 S. 29th St., after someone from the apartment called 911.
May 30, 2004: Jose Zermeno-Garcia, 22, was shot when officers were called to his house at 3901 S St. because of suicide concerns. He was shot by Officers Nathan Anderson and Christopher McElligott.
Sept. 11, 2003: Albert Rucker was shot after fleeing from a traffic stop near 33rd and Corby Streets. Officer Frank Platt shot Rucker after Rucker shot Officer Jason Tye Pratt. Pratt later died.
July 20, 2003: Brian R. Swotek, 30, was shot inside a home at 2462 S. 18th St. after pointing a gun at himself, then at Officer Scott Beran.
Feb. 14, 2002: Jose M. Chavez, 37, was shot near 28th and Madison Streets after he ran from a car and was confronted by three narcotics officers: Sgt. Mark Langan and Officers Pam Heidzig and Gary Kula. Witnesses told police that Chavez fired first.
July 16, 2001: Willie Greenlow, 19, was shot near 40th and Izard Streets after a family member said he was firing a gun. The officers involved were Omaha Police Officer Alfred Orsi and Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputy Guy Williamson.
July 19, 2000: George Bibins Jr., 35, was shot near 24th Street and Ames Avenue. Officer Jerad Kruse fired the fatal shot after Bibins crashed a stolen Jeep during a high-speed chase.
