13 tornadoes in N. Iowa and Neb.

By Nancy Gaarder
WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

Thirteen of the 17 tornadoes reported Tuesday occurred in northern Iowa and far western Nebraska.

But it was straight line winds that appears to have caused damage in the two states, not the tornadoes.

Communities with modest to more extensive wind damage include Overton and Atkinson, Neb., and Pella, Clinton, Tripoli and Dakota City, Iowa.

Atkinson appears to be among those with most wind damage, reporting numerous tree limbs and power lines down.

In Nebraska, three tornado reports were made near Harrisburg, the only community in Banner County, which is on the Wyoming border. A fourth tornado was reported near Rushville, which is in the northwest corner of the state.

Ten tornado reports were made in Iowa, all in the northwestern quadrant of that state near the communities of: Sac City, Humboldt, Eagle Grove, Marcus and Iowa Falls.

Large hail also was reported.
