The Florida couple who died after their RV caught fire on Interstate 80 in eastern Nebraska have been identified.
Edward and Lotte Brown of Naples, Fla., died Wednesday afternoon near the Beaver Crossing interchange in Seward County. The Nebraska State Patrol said just after 1 p.m., the right front tire of the Browns' motor home blew out, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The motor home then caught fire, traveled through the south ditch and was engulfed in flames when it came to rest on the eastbound on ramp of the interchange.
The preliminary investigation into the incident indicated damage caused by the blown tire led to the fire. Autopsies showed that Edward Brown, thought to be in his early 80s, and Lotte Brown, thought to be in her late 70s, both died of carbon monoxide poisoning and burns.
The State Patrol was assisted by the State Fire Marshal's Office, the Seward County Sheriff's Office and the Goehner, Beaver Crossing and Utica Fire and Rescue Departments.
