The Bullrun Rally is coming to Omaha’s Nomad Lounge, in case you haven’t heard.
The red-carpet event attracts automobile enthusiasts with an insatiable thirst for adventure. We’re talking about high-dollar, invitation-only competition. Editors of the Robb Report, a no-holds-barred magazine strictly for the ultra-rich, frequently write about the rally.
It’s a big deal.
We spoke to Rachel Richards, the go-to woman at Nomad, for details about the must-see Monday night event. Here’s what she had to say:
Q. Why is the Bullrun Rally so important?
A. It’s the most glamorous and high-profile high-end luxury automobile rally in the country. Each year, a handful of celebrities are selected to race the world’s finest super-exotic cars (from a Camaro to a Maserati) across the country in a week. Teams start in New York, stop at several exclusive cities and end in Las Vegas.
Q. Why is the event so secretive? Many of the details for this annual event remain shrouded in mystery.
A. It adds to the allure and exclusive experience for celebrities who stay at five-star hotels, go to VIP parties and drive rare cars. (Typically, the itinerary is undefined and the drive route remains unknown. Drivers don’t know where they’re going until they get there.) It’s like a scavenger hunt.
Q. Tell me more.
A. This whole thing is about the parties and the hotels. We plan to host celebrities in a VIP area (one of the lounge’s raised cabana-style sitting areas). The Cuban Brothers will spin jams. We’ll have a red-carpet entry and have a signature cocktail named “Bullrun” made with Amp, an energy drink and event sponsor.
Q. Which celebrities are coming?
A. Ice T and Bill Goldberg (a former NFL player and wrestler who currently hosts the TV show “Garage Mahal” on the DIY Network), for sure. Possibly Kim Kardashian.
Q. When do you expect them?
A. Between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. Monday. They’re staying overnight, but I’m not sure at which hotel.
Q. Will the celebrities do a meet-and-greet?
A. They’ll be around their cars when they arrive. We have 14 meter-reserved spots along Jones Street between 10th and 11th Streets for the cars. But all 75 cars will come through Omaha. (The others will be kept in a secret place.)
Q. Will the event be open to the public?
A. Yes, there’s no cover. We’re allowing cameras. Bullrun members will be taping for a show that’ll be aired at a later date (on the Speed Channel, a cable network). We’re hoping to reach capacity (430) that night.
Q. Why did they select Nomad?
A. They heard about us from someone in Omaha. A guy from England called me about a month ago to ask if we could host the event. I was surprised because it’s a very VIP event. I’m excited to see which cars they’ll bring.
Q. Have they made any special requests?
A. They’ve requested premium liquors (vodka, bourbon and tequila).
Q. Well, that’s a way to get the party started.
A. (Richards chuckles.) That’s right.
