The Omaha Public Power District and its unions have agreed to wage increases in a two-year extension of the current labor contract.
Wages will increase 2.5 percent retroactive to June 1 and 2.75 percent in 2011. The OPPD board approved the contract Thursday.
The contract affects 1,459 workers in three unions, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Locals 763 and 1483, and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Lodge 31.
In other action, the board authorized the purchase of eight high-voltage circuit breakers for $631,480, one of which will help carry more electricity from Fort Calhoun Nuclear Station when improvements to that plant are completed in 2012. The other circuit breakers will be used as replacements or to help increase customer load.
OPPD also said this week it was ranked No. 1 in residential customer satisfaction among 12 electric utilities in its class for a 10th straight year by J.D. Power & Associates. OPPD is the only electric utility in Nebraska with enough customers to qualify for the survey.
