The Durham Museum’s On Track Guild fall luncheon committee has announced the guest speaker for its “100 Yards of Glory” luncheon on Aug. 30.

Bernadette Suh, mother of Ndamukong Suh, Husker football great and first-round NFL draft pick, will discuss balancing family values and academic success with the rigorous demands of playing Division I football. A resident of Portland, Ore., Bernadette Suh is an elementary school teacher and the mother of three daughters in addition to Ndamukong, who won the 2009 Outland Trophy and the Associated Press College Athlete of the Year Award, and was a Heisman Trophy finalist.

The luncheon team met at a kickoff brunch in the home of the guild president, Lisa Braun. Jennifer Zatechka — who with husband Rob, also a former Husker, makes up the head coaching team (event chairmen) — outlined the events for “game day.”

The doors will open at 10:30 a.m. with a “tailgate party” as guests preview the Durham Museum’s “100 Yards of Glory” exhibit, a historic look at Omaha’s football teams, players and coaches and their impact on our community.

At 11 a.m., guests will huddle in the Stanley and Dorothy Truhlsen lecture hall, where coaches and players from the Omaha Nighthawks United Football League team will present “Football X’s and O’s,” a primer on football fundamentals.

The luncheon and Suh’s talk, “The Road to Glory Begins at Home,” will follow. World-Herald columnist Michael Kelly will offer play-by-play commentary as the luncheon emcee.

Omaha Sports Hall of Fame board member Dr. Jack Lewis and his wife, Kathy, are the luncheon’s honorary chairmen.

Fifty-yard-line and grandstand seating is available. For more information, call Stacy Stohlmann at 444-5071.

The Omaha Symphony Guild and Designer’s Touch will present the 2010 “Music & Masterpieces,” an art show fundraiser, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 20, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 21 and noon to 5 p.m. Aug. 22.

This year the show will feature Edelman’s Fine Arts Limited of New York. The three-day event will be held at the Designer’s Touch Studio, 2085 N. 120th St.

The exhibit will offer the opportunity to view and purchase original oil paintings and graphic artworks by many international artists. Walter Edelman, who will be at the event, is a fourth-generation art dealer who travels all over the world, buying and selling art for private collectors, public organizations, art groups, publishers and art distributors.

Marian Holden and Janette Sodero are event chairwomen. Donna Foley is president of the Omaha Symphony Guild.

A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit the Omaha Symphony’s educational programs for area youths.

For more information, contact Sodero at 330-0888.
