10:45 a.m.: There's a pretty good chance that Kansas head coach Turner Gill's first game against Nebraska could be his last with the Huskers.
The Jayhawks and Huskers are scheduled to meet Nov. 13 in Lincoln. They have played every year since 1906 and 116 times overall.
But NU is off for the Big Ten next season as KU stays in the Big 12.
"As far as down the road, not playing Nebraska, it is what it is from that standpoint," Gill said at Big 12 media days. "Again, I'm a person that always moved forward and not looked too much in the past. They got to do what they got to do. And the University of Kansas has to do what they have to do."
Asked later if there is any chance of NU-KU nonconference games in the future, Gill said: "I don't know. I haven't even thought about that stuff."
The former Nebraska quarterback and assistant coach returns to the Midwest after four seasons as head coach at the University of Buffalo. He faces the task of fixing a KU program that broke down in the second half of last season and eventually fired Mark Mangino.
Some other snippets from Gill:
> About his expectations for his first KU team, Gill said: "To win every game."
> Gill said he found out he liked the competitiveness of coaching, something he didn't think could be replicated from his playing days.
> Gill said he knew Bo Pelini would do well at Nebraska after working with Pelini on the Huskers' staff in 2003. Gill said he was always impressed with Pelini's defensive schemes and how he could get players to play hard.
"It's not a surprise for him to be successful at Nebraska," Gill said.
