Golf Notes: Father-son group nabs morning title in pro-am event

A team with two pairs of fathers and sons won one of the divisions Wednesday at the First National Bank Pro-Am.

Omaha orthopedic surgeon Michael Morrison and his son, Ryan, along with Mike and Mark Dahir from Omaha State Bank, shot 46 and won a scorecard playoff for the morning pro-am title. Their pro was David Hearn.

Another tie occurred in the afternoon division, with the scorecard playoff going to pro Scott Stallings and the amateur foursome of Joe Klaus, Rick Bettger, Michael Hettinger and Alan Freilich that shot 45.

The pro-am format let teams take either the pro's score or the best amateur score, including handicap strokes, after playing from the amateurs' best tee shot.

State Patrol adding extra enforcement

Enjoy the nightlife, but take it easy in the 19th Hole tent. The Nebraska State Patrol again is ramping up its presence on the streets around Champions Run in a focus on impaired drivers during the next three nights.

In 2009, the patrol's enforcement resulted in troopers arresting 17 motorists for driving under the influence, 10 citations were issued for open container and five people were arrested for driving without a license.

A grant of nearly $10,000 from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety is helping pay for the enforcement.

Parking, shuttles available all week

With parking highly restricted around Champions Run, the advice is to park at Tranquility Park or St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and use the shuttle services.

At Tranquility, 120th Street and West Maple Road, there is no charge for parking but there will be a $3 shuttle charge on the weekend.

At St. Vincent de Paul, 144th Street and Eagle Run Drive, parking is $6 at all times but the shuttle is free.
