First Data is eliminating 50 jobs from its Omaha operations.
The layoffs total 1 percent of First Data's workforce in the metro, which totals about 5,000 employees.
Companywide, 355 positions were cut. That's about 2 percent of the Atlanta-based payment processor's 25,000-person global workforce.
The move was made to "create a leaner management and organizational structure that is better aligned globally, more cost competitive and more responsive to the market," said Nancy Etheredge, a company spokeswoman.
Most of the job cuts are management positions. Those individuals are eligible for severance benefits and outplacement services, Etheredge said.
