Quilt auction more than just a sale

The 22nd annual Carol Joy Holling Camp Quilt Auction, a fundraiser for the camp near Ashland, Neb., will be July 31.

The event will include activities for the whole family as well as live and silent auctions of more than 300 quilted and tied quilts.

Quilting groups and individuals, congregations and youth groups from across Nebraska and neighboring states have donated an assortment of handcrafted items, from pillows and vests to wall hangings and bedspreads.

Last year’s auction raised more than $100,000 for Nebraska Lutheran Outdoor Ministries to support youth and adult camping programs. Carol Joy Holling is a camp as well as a conference and retreat center.

The live auction starts at 10 a.m. Bidding for the silent auction will open at 9 a.m. and close at 2 p.m. If it rains, the auction and lunch will be moved indoors.

A barbecue lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; cost is $6 for adults and $3 for kids.

Swimming and water activities will be available from noon to 5 p.m., and hayrack rides and camp tours will be offered all day.

Admission and parking are free.
