There are two new acts this year at Westfair in Council Bluffs. Wildlife Wendy Horton and her Tropical Birds and Adam Buck and his Royal Bengal Tigers will both perform Thursday through Sunday in the greenspace on the fairgrounds.
Chain saw demonstrations will run throughout the day Thursday through Sunday as well, just west of the commercial exhibit building.
Friday night will feature a talent show at the amphitheater.
The biggest show of the fair is Saturday night, when the country music quartet Gloriana hits the amphitheater at 6 p.m.
The $5 general admission fee will get fans into the concert.
Various 4-H clubs from across the western half of the county will show livestock and present projects completed throughout the fair.
“We show everything from dogs and cats to llamas — that’s a lot of fun to watch,” Jenny Vincent, county youth coordinator for 4-H, said of the livestock showings.
Vincent said the 4-H projects merit attention, as well.
“It’s a showcase of everything we’ve been working on throughout the year,” Vincent said. “A lot of kids think they have to have an animal to be in 4-H. They don’t.”
There will be an abundance of racing at the fair, with all-terrain vehicle races Thursday night along with horseshoe-track motorcycle races. Friday night will feature figure-8 motorcycle races.
Saturday afternoon fair attendees can become part of the show in a skid loader rodeo in the arena. Drivers will go through an obstacle course and pick up and unload items.
Menke said people can sign up to participate.
“The people in charge will give a crash course in how to operate it and people can compete head-to-head,” he said.
